The 2026 harvest is ongoing in the Mykolaiv region. As of August 3rd, 606 thousand hectares of grain and leguminous crops have been harvested (83%). In the region, 1 million 440 thousand tons of wheat have been threshed from an area of 387 thousand hectares (90%) with an average yield of 3.7 tons/ha, and barley 578 thousand tons from an area of 169 thousand hectares (98%) with a yield of 3.4 tons/ha.
Nadiya Ivanova, director of a seed farm, states that grain yields have reached 3.5–4.5 tons/ha, which is on average three times more than last year. Regarding grain prices, they have significantly decreased during the harvest. Furthermore, due to intense shelling, not all ports in Odesa region are accepting grain. This is reported by Suspilne.
“Over the past three weeks, the price for the grain group has fallen by more than 40%. At the beginning of the season, barley cost around 10 thousand UAH/ton – this is in Pivdennyi, Odesa, for example – there it was 100 UAH more or less. If we consider now – in Pivdennyi there is no price, today in Mykolaiv region the price is 5700. That is, almost half,” she says (as of July 30th).
Wheat, according to Nadiya Ivanova, has become cheaper in the Mykolaiv region during the same period, falling from 11 to 6-7 thousand UAH/ton. In Izmail, slightly more is offered for grains, but the journey there is longer.
Mykola Lukashuk, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reports on actual prices as of August 1st on his Telegram channel.
According to him, farmers in Petropavlivka are currently selling wheat via non-cash transactions for 5 thousand UAH/ton. For cash – 4–4.5 thousand UAH/ton. Barley is 2.8 thousand UAH/ton.
“And in Romania, at the port of Constanța, Ukrainian wheat costs $220–260 per ton depending on the grain class. And the price is rising along with the global price. Yes, this includes logistics and transshipment. But our farmer on the ground receives significantly less. And the gap now is larger than any logistics can explain. At such prices, farms are incurring losses of $450–500 from each hectare. And this is despite the fact that this year’s harvest is good,” the message states.
Incidentally, in the Poltava region, the price for the third class of food wheat is currently 6200 UAH/ton, and for feed grain, it is around 6000 UAH/ton.
